Toyama Mituaki (外山光顕)

Mituaki TOYAMA (August 10, 1652 - May, 31, 1738) was a Kugyo (court noble) from the early to middle of the Edo period. He was the person who was the ancestor of the Hino family's branch and a Court noble, the Toyama family. He mostly served the Imperial Court for three generations, Emperor Reigen (the 112th), Emperor Higashiyama (the 113th), Emperor Nakamikado (the 114th), and he was promoted to Shonii Gon Dainagon (Senior Second Rank, Provisional Major Counselor). His original name was Nobukatsu. His one character name was Sen (仙). His father was Hirosuke HINO. He had an older brother Sukeshige HINO, and younger brothers Arihisa TOYOOKA, Terumitsu HINO and Hiromasa TOYOOKA. He had children, 外村光和 (Junii Gon Chunagon [Junior Second Rank provisional vice-councilor of state]), Sukechika NAGASAWA (bakufu koke) and 豊岡光全 (Jusanmi Nakatsukasa no taifu).

In 1660, after he was conferred a peerage, he was promoted from one position to another, and in 1685, he served as Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank), and was ranked with Kugyo (court noble). He successively held various posts such as Sahyoe no gon no suke (Provisional Assistant Master of the Left Military Guard), Sangi (councillor), Toka no sechie Geben (a kugyo who supervised many matters outside Jomei Gate at Toka no sechie [Imperial Court Ceremony]), and Gon Chunagon (a provisional vice-councilor of state), then he served as Gon Dainagon (provisional major counselor) in 1731. He was well versed in waka (Japanese poetry) and calligraphic works and paintings.
